Microcopy does more work than your hero image
Buttons, labels, empty states and error messages shape trust. Microcopy is brand voice at the point of decision.
Teams spend hours on hero visuals and minutes on the words beside the submit button. That is backwards. Microcopy is where users decide whether you are competent, human and safe to engage with.
Good microcopy is specific. Not Get started. Try Start your free trial or Book a 20-minute intro — whatever matches the actual next step. Vague CTAs create vague outcomes.
Empty states, loading messages and errors are brand moments too. A blank dashboard that says nothing here yet with no guidance feels abandoned. A friendly, instructive empty state turns confusion into momentum.
Consistency matters across the whole journey. If your homepage sounds bold and playful but your checkout sounds like a tax form, users feel the seam. Voice guidelines should include product UI, not just marketing pages.
Microcopy is cheap to change and expensive to ignore. Fixing ten high-friction strings can lift conversion more than a new illustration set. Treat words on interactive surfaces as design work, not copy leftovers.
